In a major action, the Excise Department in Balasore, Odisha has seized brown sugar worth Rs 2 crore. A raid was conducted on the basis of secret information in a house in Adarbazar area. During this time one person was arrested, while his companion absconded. Police say that further action is being taken in the matter.
According to the news agency, Balasore Excise Superintendent Sushant Padhi said that this banned substance was smuggled from outside Odisha. The search operation has been intensified to arrest the absconding accused. A case has been registered under NDPS Act 1985. Officials are now identifying other people involved in this smuggling racket.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of excise officials raided a house in Adarbazar area and seized the banned substance, he said. A search operation is being conducted to arrest people involved in such illegal activities. The action is expected to have a major impact on the illegal drug trade in the area.
Brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore seized in Angul
Let us tell you that earlier in April 2024, the police had seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore in Angul district of Odisha. Also two smugglers were arrested. While giving information, the police had said that the accused have been identified as 43-year-old Rakibul Shaikh of West Bengal and 26-year-old Vijay Birbarma of Angul district.
