A high-level committee constituted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to revise the school curriculum has recommended that the name of the country be replaced by ‘India’ as ‘Bharat’ in all school textbooks in the country.

Minister Sivankutty in his letters underlined the importance of maintaining the existing practice in the best interest of the educational system and unity of the country. He said that for generations, students have learned about the rich past, history and heritage of the country under the name ‘India’, any change in it will create confusion and disrupt the continuity in the educational system.
